Modeling Student Interest, Participation, and Achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
In 2008, the Business-Higher Education Forum in collaboration with member organizations Raytheon and The Ohio State University launched the STEM Research and Modeling Network (SRMN). This network is dedicated to fostering the development and use of predictive modeling tools in the fields of education research and policy. Such action will allow us to better understand the factors that strengthen student interest, participation and achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The model that currently serves as the SRMN foundation arose when Raytheon CEO and BHEF vice-chair Bill Swanson (also co-chair of BHEF's STEM Initiative) decided to commit the resources of his organization to answering the question: "What would it take to double the number of STEM graduates in the United States by 2020?" Over two years, teams of Raytheon systems engineers committed their time and intellectual expertise to building the current model. Learn more about the STEM model.
