Case Studies
Across the country, cities and regions have used community partnerships to improve the educational attainment of their citizens and align their K-12, community college, and four-year education institutions. Although regional leaders take different approaches to this challenge, the most successful communities engage all sectors and align their efforts around common goals. Together, these communities identify keys to community vitality, shape dynamic and sustainable networks, and develop systemic solutions that will enable the region to attain its economic, educational, and social goals.
To better understand what makes these collaborations successful, and to support its members in Louisville, KY and Philadelphia, PA who are leading similar efforts, the Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) has undertaken a case study of one established effort--the Long Beach Seamless Education Partnership. Click below for the report.
We would like to offer special thanks to GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for its financial support for this project. The views expressed in this report are those of BHEF and do not necessarily reflect the views of GSK.
Education Improvement Effort Profiles
To capture snapshots of community-wide education improvement efforts in other cities and regions across the country, BHEF is developing one-page profiles of education alignment efforts.
Corporate Investments in College Readiness and Access
With support from USA Funds and in collaboration with the Institute for Higher Education Policy, BHEF developed Corporate Investments in College Readiness and Access, which examines the extent of corporate support for college readiness and access and the most effective practices major corporations use to support college readiness and access initiatives.

Two case studies showcasing best practices for investments in college readiness and success emerged:
Institute for Strategic Investment in Education (ISIE): Maximizing the Impact of Corporate Philanthropy
BHEF and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, with support from the Goldman Sachs Foundation, hosted the inaugural ISIE at Harvard University in April 2008. The event convened over 45 corporate and private philanthropic leaders and education leaders for two and a half days to explore how best to leverage corporate philanthropic monies to maximize the impact on education. Key lessons and strategies emerged from the event, and are shared in BHEF's Lessons in Education Philanthropy: Proceedings from BHEF's Inaugural Institute for Strategic Investment in Education.
