BHEF is working locally to provide teams of corporate, university, and foundation leaders in selected communities with tools to formulate strategic agendas for local educational improvement activities. Through these projects, BHEF aids members and their peers in shaping a local action agenda that includes advocacy, programs, and community/foundation investment. BHEF provides participating stakeholders with access to knowledge-sharing opportunities, collaborating partners, research, scholars, and experts/consultants. These activities provide powerful tools and lessons for other corporate and higher education leaders to draw on. This dynamic, interrelated structure enables BHEF to work in select locations with a cohort of members, while building knowledge and tools for the business and higher education sectors, generally.
Such local projects are underway in Louisville, KY, where BHEF will support local stakeholders' efforts by providing analyses of key data needed to define the problems and to set priorities; convening local stakeholders; and connecting local business, higher education and school district leaders with national resources to address local needs; among other things. Similar local efforts are under development in Philadelphia, PA and Ohio.
